Diversity and Inclusion, empowering youth to create cultural change

We were happy to work with The Cotton Tree Foundation (@thecottontreefoundation) on their youth empowerment project. The Silver Lining Foundation (SLF) was asked to facilitate their last session on diversity and inclusion, to better equip young students with the necessary tools and education to foster respect, empathy and inclusivity among their peers. ⁣

The British High Commission, Port of Spain (@ukincaribbean) continued its commitment to supporting the Anti-Bullying work that SLF had undertaken in 2019. These students were asked to produce reflective pieces that would raise the awareness of bullying, violence and homophobia to address these social ills. The high commission lends its support by providing tokens for those who produce outstanding pieces. We appreciate the long-standing support of the high commission and look forward to continued LGBTI advocacy and education with them.⁣

In commemoration of pride month across the globe, this activity follows the Safer Classrooms Training that began in 2018. This initiative sought to ⁣
ensure equal access to education, a school environment free from violence, fear and intimidation, and to empower LGBT youth to live authentically with pride. This group of young students displayed social justice awareness and were very articulate in their expressions. Many shared the stories of their school experiences with us.⁣

Their assignments would continue the participation in the #AllDifferentAllEqual campaign which would act as a catalyst to empower students to create a culture change in their schools, to build compassion and acceptance of diversity.⁣

Happy Pride T&T🌈⁣
