International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia 2020
Despite our current challenging circumstances, May 17th 2020 marks 30 years since the World Health Organisation’s decision in 1990 to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder. We at The Silver Lining Foundation (SLF) are proud to stand in solidarity with other LGBTI organisations and the LGBTI community, both regionally as well as globally, to break the silence and speak out against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexphobia and Transphobia.
Today reminds us of SLF’s core values; Support, Educate and Advocate. This is what IDAHOBIT is all about.
We may not be able to make noise in public with each other in unified numbers but we can sure make noise and take up cyberspace. Join us in our social media campaign to commemorate IDAHOBIT 2020: Pandemic Edition. Just as we are taking serious preventative measures to protect against the spread and infection of COVID-19, so too we must protect the LGBTI/queer communities from the spread and hurt of LGBTI phobias. We should not have to wander through most of our lives with any fear, shame or silence.
Shout out and break the silence in the comments below. Speak Out! Share your stories of courage, pride and empowerment.
