Celebrating 11 Years
Today, we celebrate our continued drive to empower youth, build stronger families and create safer classrooms. Today, we celebrate 11 years of support, education and advocacy.
What started as a dream, a hope in the minds of a group of committed young people, motivated to build a better, safer society for LGBTQIA+ people stands today, 11 years later, as a recognised, respectable and dynamic organisation, tasked with a continued push for safe spaces where LGBTQIA+ people feel seen, heard, valued, respected and loved.
It is a matter of great pride for us to be standing for over a decade. We have been able to achieve more than we initially thought possible through sheer determination, immense courage in the face of adversity and the unwavering support of our peers, partner organisations and most of all, you – our Silver Linings. Collaboration and commitment is the heart of any of our achievements; know that without you, we would not be here. You have kept your faith in us and we have been able to achieve more than what we have ever thought of. We continue to work for the betterment of all of you.
The past three years have been incredibly difficult for everyone. On the positive side, it has given us an opportunity to undergo some reflection and organisational transformation to allow us to serve you better. We are excited to roll out new programmes, initiatives and opportunities to connect with you.
We are proud to see our work grow, evolve and endure, reaching new places and people over the past 11 years, all with you at the fore of our minds. Endurance, meaningful endurance, is a difficult feat; but we continue to work towards providing safe, inclusive spaces where we can provide a greater understanding and appreciation of the actual lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people in our society. Whether that is by forming support groups for LGBTQIA+ people and their families, conducting research and providing data on bullying trends in our schools, or trainding educators and school administrators to issues relating to gender bias and homophobia, we remain committed in our pursuit for full equality for LGBTQIA+ people in our nation. We continue to push the envelope for hopeful and meaningful change.
