T&T Pride: Love is the Language
Inclement weather may have delayed the annual raising of our Pride flag, but not even the rain can wash away our resolve. While our flags may not have flown, we reflect on the powerful moments in past years when they waved boldly as emblems of courage, visibility, and hope.
Pride in 2025 feels different. Queer communities are still facing increasing homophobia, transphobia, and threats of violence around the world, including right here in Trinidad and Tobago. This year’s Pride is a return to its roots; not just a celebration but also a protest. It is a refusal to remain silent or invisible, a demand to exist without fear. Raising the Pride flag in public spaces is more than just ceremony; it is a declaration that LGBTQIA+ people belong here, that we will not be erased, and that Trinidad and Tobago is home to us too.
This year’s Pride theme, “Love is the Language,” reminds us that at the core of our movement is a simple truth: love in all its forms is valid, powerful and revolutionary. And when we raise our flags, we speak that love into every corner of our country.
Even without the flags in the sky on flag raising day, our message stands tall. SLF remains committed to building and sustaining safe spaces where love is met with acceptance, where diversity is protected, and where every LGBTQIA+ person can live free from harm, harassment, and exclusion.
Pride is protest. Pride is advocacy. Pride is love.
